Seating schedule for Ninja New York Restaurant (expect to make reservations for dinner)
  • Lunch is served from 11:45 to 2:15 p.m.
  • Dinner seating starts at 5:45 p.m.; the last seating is at 10 p.m.

What to expect

  • Reservations are extremely hard to get - the Ninja New York Restaurant is one of the newest and most popular restaurants in Manhattan
  • When you enter the lobby, it is lit only by lanterns and flames, which is very cool
  • You are met by waiters dressed all in black, like ninjas (all in good fun)
  • You'll be asked if you want to follow the "easy" or "difficult" path to your table.  Most definitely, the fun way is to go the difficult path, where you take an elevator to the basement (the whole huge restaurant is underground)
  • You go through a maze-like path where your ninja waiter will do all sorts of secret pass codes
  • At one point a drawbridge will descend!
  • Crossing the River of Frogs or or going through a secret wall wall which swings back, you'll reach the beautiful little dining area
  • There are 22 of these little dining areas in the "mountain" of the Ninja New York Restaurant.  It's really incredible to see.
  • You then get your own neat private dojo
  • Your menu is on a huge scroll that is bigger than the table and unrolls dramatically
  • Your waiter will perform lots of magic tricks during the meal (like flames!)
  • The sushi is presented on beautiful driftwood
  • There are a million other cool surprises, too!

What the Ninja New York Restaurant is like

  • This underground restaurant is so large and elaborate that it took fully two years to build.
  • The Ninja New York Restaurant cost $3.5 million to build
  • It's a complete recreation of two 1700s villages in Japan
  • The original restaurant is in Tokyo, and is called Ninja Akasaka, and is extremely popular, with reservations needed months in advance
  • There's also a sushi bar for 10 people and a lounge for 20
  • Ninja New York's motto is "Excitement and inspiration for all customers"

Prices

  • About $100/person (or more)
  • It's fun to go with a big group
  • If you go with just two people, you can get this cool little lovers' tryst, with private sliding screens

The food at the Ninja New York Restaurant

  • Amazing Japanese food
  • Get the $100 10-course dinner, if you can afford it (super-fun!)
  • My favorite dessert is the Bonsai, which is shaped like a bonsai tree made out of chocolate cake, ice cream, and fruits hidden in it's "dirt".

Reservations needed

  • The Ninja New York Restaurant just opened, so it's incredibly popular and you'll need reservations
  • You should get reservations way in advance if looking for dinner on a weekend
